river Ireland“When you do things from your soul, a river moves through you. Freshness and a deep joy are the signs.” – Rumi

I saw this quote from Rumi on facebook and decided to not only share it on my facebook page, but also to write a blog post about it. Rumi is one of my favorite poets. He was born in 1207 in Balkh, Afghansistan, then part of the Persian empire. It always amazes me that his passionate, playful poems are still applicable in today’s hectic age of technology. His work helps us to celebrate the sacredness of everyday life and to glimpse its most profound mysteries.

Lately, I have been questioning, meditating and writing about my right and perfect path. I had to cancel a 12 week live class a few weeks ago due to low registrations and it made me stop and think, what is this really about? I have never had to cancel a retreat or class before so this was a new experience for me. I’m grateful that the retreats and classes I’ve facilitated in previous years have been so successful and enriching.  I made a decision after some advice  from a wise friend to move beyond the cancelled class and look at where else I might put my focus. I am designing a two day retreat that will take place in May and am so excited about the content and possible location. I am doing a site visit later this week. The facility looks great on the website, is close to water and woods and my energy feels good around all of this. My coach suggested I follow the energy and that’s what I am doing.

How this relates to the Rumi quote at the beginning of this post is how soulful this feels to me. When I listen to my intuition, follow the energy and take action steps, I am usually headed in the right direction. I feel excited and joyful about the May retreat and that indicates that I am creating from my soul which feels so right to me.

What about you? Are you living a soulful life? If not, what is one step you can take today in that direction? How can you look at a challenge you are facing as an opportunity for growth? How can a perceived failure lead you to your next success?

What a beautiful quote. Many of Rumi’s quotes I find to be my favorites. I will definitely be adding this one to my list. Your steps sound perfect:
    1) listen to your intuition 2) follow the energy 3) take action steps. EXCELLENT!

Maybe it is time to start thinking of creating your own retreat Vickie. Have you attended any retreats? If not, my suggestion is to do so and be both a full participant and an observer at the retreat. That’s what I did in May, 2014, and I facilitated my first retreat in October, 2014:)

Oh yes! When I am doing what feels right and good for my soul, it seems the birds sing happier, the sun shines brighter and the entire world is at peace. I know I’m onto something beautiful.

I wish you lots and lots of success for your May retreat. The venue sounds simply amazing…enjoy the process!

Thanks for your kind words Michelle! It’s that piece about listening to my small, still voice and following the energy. Sounds like you know what I mean:)

I’m delighted for you, Nancy. And your friend is indeed wise. Wishing you great success with the May retreat. As for me, I’m finally stepping into the world of podcasting. Just did my first one and it felt right. As if it was something I’m meant to do.

I agree. Doing what feels right makes us put more of our authentic self into the work.
