What is an attitude adjustment? For me, it is looking at a person or situation from another perspective. It is looking at a situation differently. In coaching lingo, we call this re-framing. How can you look at this through another lens? What is the real issue here? How important is this? This topic came up for me when I walked in nature this morning. I often hear my next blog post topic when I am walking alone. Today I woke up in a less than joyous mood which is unusual for me. Something was bothering me. After writing furiously for 14 minutes in my daily Morning Pages, some clarity emerged. My Artist’s Way Retreat booklet which is my master copy with all of my notes has gone missing. I brought it to the Monday night Vein of Gold class to share with the women who had not attended the retreat. When I got home that night I realized the booklet was not in my bag. I have emailed everyone in the group asking them to look through their class materials to see if someone inadvertently picked it up. If the book never reappears it is not the end of the world. I have another copy. So needless to say, I was looking at the situation differently this morning and my new perspective has allowed me to let go of getting my retreat booklet back. Many years ago a friend of mine gave me some sage advice, control what you can and let go of the rest. I asked myself in my pages today what can I let go of? What is out of my control? Have I done everything I can to get my booklet back? What else do I need to let go of today?
