Ana lake superiorRemember being a child and getting down on your hands and knees to watch a caterpillar crawl around? It never seemed to go very far but I would watch patiently just in case it did something spectacular. That sense of childlike wonder and awe and the joy of being in the moment is something children do so well. When I am with my 5 year old granddaughter, we pause often so she can examine ant hills, lady bugs, dandelions, an interesting twig or rock or whatever catches her eye. She is so present in the moment and everything delights her. She finds pleasure in the simplest things in nature and nothing escapes her eagle eye. She is full of boundless Joy and so happy to be alive. I have learned so much from this little girl. When I am with her it’s like being a child again, laughing joyfully, stopping to smell the roses, examining a leaf, discovering a new flower, laying in the grass and reflecting on the trees, rolling down a hill. It’s all about celebrating being alive and being present in the moment. It’s about celebration of the spirit and honoring that sense of childlike wonder and awe present in each of us.

What about you? How can you reconnect to your inner child? What does it feel like to stop and smell the roses? When is the last time you rolled in the clover? How can you celebrate your spirit today? How can you ignite your Joy of Wonder?

I remember spending hours studying the grass looking for four leaf clovers. Sadly today I spend more time mowing the grass than staring at it! However, I am working on it. When I’m out in the woods on a dog walk I do try and notice the life around me. Especially in the Spring when I count the number of Trillium popping up. Our record? 328.

I remember those days looking for four leaf clovers. Glad to hear you’re stopping to notice nature when you’re walking in the woods:)

How fun. My daughter just turned 13 and is way too old for that kind of stuff, but I still enjoy hearing things from her perspective. 🙂

Amy, thanks for your comments. A 13 year old girl definitely has her own perspective on things, I still remember those days:)

I have always been in awe of what Mother Nature offers us each and every day. I guess that somehow I managed to keep my childlike wonder when it comes to Mother Earth.

I have the same type of experiences with my grandson who is just a year and a half. I love just sitting around with him and watching all the things he can easily entertain himself with. He is such a joy and it also helps me to stay connected to my inner child.
