crocusI recently read a blog post written by Deborah Weber, a member of the Inspired Blogging Group I belong to. She shared a dream about how important our names are and what they mean. Being naturally curious, I did some internet research and here’s what I discovered about my name.

The name Nancy is a Hebrew baby name. In Hebrew the meaning of the name Nancy is: Grace. The name Nancy is an American baby name. In American the meaning of the name Nancy is: Grace. The name Nancy is a French baby name. In French the meaning of the name Nancy is: Favor; grace. The name Nancy is an English baby name. In English the meaning of the name Nancy is: Favor; grace and was introduced to Britain in the 13th century. People with this name have a deep inner desire to use their abilities in leadership, and to have personal independence. They would rather focus on large, important issues, and delegate the details. People with this name tend to be creative and excellent at expressing themselves. They are drawn to the arts, and often enjoy life immensely. They are often the center of attention, and enjoy careers that put them in the limelight. They tend to become involved in many different activities, they have a very independent nature, yet are friendly, approachable, and generous. People named Nancy tend to be creative, artistic, musical and and there is an element of originality in all that they do. They are spontaneous, expressive, and talkative.  People named Nancy like to do things on the spur of the moment without planning or prior arrangements, they are buoyed up greatly by encouragement and appreciation and there is a tendency to be scattered in their efforts and they prefer to avoid menial jobs of a routine and repetitive nature.

How much of this is a fit for me? It’s pretty much right on for the most part. I am creative, expressive, friendly, engaging, generous, spontaneous, artistic and fiercely independent. I am good at delegating, like to appreciated, seek out encouragement and I can be scattered in my efforts. Being more focused is something I am working on. The part that doesn’t ring true is the piece about enjoying being the center of attention and in the limelight, not so much. I am stretching into this arena and it came up in my coaching call yesterday. How’s that for  synchronicity?

What about you? What does your name mean? Does your name fit you?

Wow – your name is right on I believe. I never knew the connection between Nancy and Grace! I know Vickie means victorious and a few more things. Since my name isn’t short for Victoria -I’m not sure how it translates! I’m curious now

Loved this post Nancy. Those are beautiful descriptions for your name and you. Well my name originates from Sanskrit and it means golden. Some say it means golden hearted:)
People with my name have a deep inner desire for a stable, loving family or community, and a need to work with others and to be appreciated.
People with my name tend to be passionate, compassionate, intuitive, romantic, and to have magnetic personalities. They are usually humanitarian, broadminded and generous, and tend to follow professions where they can serve humanity. Because they are so affectionate and giving, they may be imposed on. They are romantic and easily fall in love, but may be easily hurt and are sometimes quick-tempered.

Every line in the above description is true for me. Thank you so much for such a lovely post Nancy:)
