Christmas treesTis the season for holiday lights, Christmas trees, baking Christmas cookies, decorating the house, singing Christmas carols, holiday movies and so much more. Here are some of the things I’ve noticed over the years which occur at this special time of year. People are kinder to each other, more generous, more compassionate, more joyful. They seem to be focused on the true meaning of Christmas, the joy of giving and receiving, not only material gifts but gifts of time and spirit. We remember the birth of a special child in a manger so many years ago, silent night, holy night, peace on earth, angels we have heard on high, what child is this, O come all ye faithful. We raise our voices in song and prayer in celebration of this Joyful time of year.

I have been reflecting on what I can do this Christmas season to bring a little extra joy into someone’s life. How can I be kinder, more compassionate, more giving and generous with my time? How can I truly embody the Christmas spirit this year? How can I be more mindful and intentional about the true meaning of Christmas?

What about you? How can you be more generous this holiday season? Who can you reach out to? How can you be a peacemaker? How can you practice loving kindness and compassion? What is the true meaning of Christmas for you?

Peace on earth and good will to all. May there be peace on earth and may it begin with us. Wishing abundant Christmas Blessings to you and your families!

Thank you Scott, Naomi, Michelle and Debbie for your comments! The goodness and smiles are out there. We only need to open our hearts and minds.

I see so many more smiling faces this time of year…..would it not be wonderful if we could all just keep smiling at one another all year long! Merry Christmas!

Nancy, thank you for the reminder about the Christmas Spirit. This year, I’ve been really busy with things unrelated to good will and giving. Today, I finally got out and got to shop. People were all so kind and considerate. It reminded me I am late to the party. Thank you for your post!

It’s struck me so far this year that once you start looking for the goodness around you, you find it everywhere. There is so much giving and smiling happening that it warms my heart.

Each year at this time, I participate in a community called Holiday Wishes. Each person posts a wishlist, from the highly unlikely wishes to small kindnesses. Then we search the lists for wishes we can grant. A lot of people just want Christmas cards, for example, but maybe you got a new TV and can supply your old one to a family with none.

I mostly mail out themed mix CDs. This year’s theme is “Stay Warm” with all fire-related songs.
