Compassion has been on my mind lately and I have been contemplating what it means to me. Here’s an exercise I did in my journal recently which helped me define how compassion is showing up in my life today.

Compassion

Opens

My heart

Pushes open the door

Allowing

Softness and

Serenity

Into my

Opening heart

Now and forever

For me compassion means loving another person totally and unconditionally, accepting them for who they are and where they are in their lives. Compassion is letting go of what happened in the past, moving forward, and beginning anew. When I practice compassion my heart opens and softens with forgiveness. I am released from pain, sadness, anger and resentment. A sense of peace and serenity wraps around me like a warm, soft blanket. Practicing compassion sets me free.
